From My Heart
There is a bit of spring excitement in the air with the warm temps and bright sunshine we enjoyed this week. I doubt seriously if winter has decided to lay down and rest for the year, but certainly the end of winter is clearly in sight. Spring brings new life to everything - and is such a refreshing and encouraging time of the year. After the cold, the wind, and the snow; spring brings longer days, warmer temperatures, and everything around us seems to burst with life.
The Lord Jesus was crucified on the Jewish Passover - which is celebrated in the spring. This year, Passover is March 27th. And, of course, we know the Lord Jesus resurrected from the grave after being three days and three nights in the borrowed tomb. Just as the earth seems to explode with new life in the Spring-time, the Lord Jesus was raised from the tomb to new life. Death could not keep Him in the tomb, and Christ arose victorious over sin and death.
We have a Spring Revival Meeting scheduled for May 23-26, with Evangelist Dr. John Hamblin. Sunday through Wednesday, we will have Dr. Hamblin to bring us the Word of God. I also have scheduled Sterling Walsh to be with us to sing special music. Also, Pastor Dick Fenton is going to come, and we are going to get our original quartet together and practice a few songs that we can sing. Pastor Walsh, Pastor Fenton, Fran, and me… that was our original group! It is going to be a great couple of days. Please mark your calendar and plan to be here for each service.
We certainly need a revival in our lives. Someone said to Billy Sunday, “Revival is only temporary!” And Billy said, “So is a bath…but your wife is so happy when you take one each Saturday night!” Each of us needs revival to take place in our hearts. I have been praying for the Lord to bless and give us a genuine moving of the Holy Spirit of God. I would like to ask you to join me and pray for revival to sweep across the strings of our hearts.
When Jonathan Edwards preached his famous sermon, “Sinners in the hands of an angry God,” it is reported he preached the message in a monotone voice - asking the Lord to bless his words, instead of the emotion he would try to put into the message. As he read his message in a monotone voice, the folks who were in attendance were brought to such conviction by the Spirit of the Lord, they held onto the columns which held the building up, for fear the floor would open up and they would drop into the burning flames of Hell. That is God moving upon His people and bringing true revival.
Let's begin now, to pray for the Lord to do something out of the ordinary and stir our hearts to true and genuine revival. Pray the Lord will bless Dr. Hamblin, the music, and the Church of the Open Door family.
Have a wonderful day!
Pastor Norris
