Handicapped Ministry
The Good Shepherd class was founded in May 1987 by Dr. Shelton Smith, and "Brother" Scherl Reid. They shared a vision for our local church to have an outreach to the mentally and physically handicapped for our community. Beginning with three attendees at the first meeting in 1987, the class has grown to 50-60 in attendance.
The class meets on Sundays, currently in the gymnasium, from .10:15 AM to 11:45 AM. Our church provides two "handicap" buses with wheelchair lifts. These two buses can handle around 25 passengers. The rest of the class is transported on the other buses, vans, and some are brought in by their families.
Our weekly services include singing, Bible study, refreshments, and fellowship (sharing). Annual events include our Christmas Drama and Christmas Banquet. Our wonderful workers share the love of Christ with the class. Many have openly professed Christ as their savior. The love they return to the workers is obvious, and often overwhelming. Involvement in this ministry is truly a "labor of love".
